A Favourite poem

I have nothing to post on Allotments or planting today, so decided to share a favourite poem.

He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

HAD I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with the golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams beneath your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams...

One of my favourites Mo along with his beautiful poem 'The Lake Isle of Innisfree' . We studied the poetry of Yeats at school, and I still have a book of his poetry in my bookshelf. It's seen better days but I can't bear to part with it :)

Aah I'm glad you love it too Anna.
"The Lake Isle of Innisfree" is in a way more appropriate for an Allotmant blog ! seeing as he mentions -nine bean rows will I have, there and a hive for the honey bee.:)

Hi Mareen,
I LOVE this poem. Yeats is one of my favorite poets. Has been since I was 18 years old.
That's another reason I love my grandson's name, Oisin. Yeats wrote about Oisin the warrior poet of Irish legend. An excerpt:

O wandering Oisin, the strength

of the bell-branch is naught,

For there moves alive in your fingers the fluttering sadness of earth.

Then go through the lands in the saddle and see what

the mortals do . . .

– William Butler Yeats, from The Wanderings of Oisin

Just more common ground for us, Maureen!

Take care,
Leigh
