Has anyone frozen cabbage ?

Morning all ! I have a question ! Has anyone frozen cabbage ? I have rather a lot of lovely cabbages on the plot and the slugs are having a grand feast.  I want to save as many as possible and would like to freeze some.  Has anyone had success doing this ? If so please let me know.

Many thanks ! I'm off to do more digging now :(.  Three and a half hours yesterday left me with aching muscles that I didn't know I had.  It was worth it though as my fruit bed is looking better. It was so full of weeds.  I also thinned out the dastardly raspberries which are so invasive.

WARNING to anyone new to GYO  don't put raspberry canes anywhere where you don't want them to spread into other beds as they will !  and with a vengeance . I know they are easy to pull up if spotted but they are a pain .

Have a great day

I did a few years back with disastrous results, it turned into a soggy mess once cooked. I read once on a blog about raspberry canes over growing where they were meant to be. Pre me having canes that was & wondered what the fuss was. Now I have my own raspberry patch I share your feelings, they are a blinking pain when infesting other beds. Good look with the cabbage

Hi Joanne
Thanks for the speedy reply :) I washed some cabbage last night, let it drain and have packed it into a freezer bag squeezing as much air out as possible and it's now freezing ! I'll cook it in a couple of days and put the results on the blog. I'm sure I've seen frozen cabbage in the supermarkets. I did google it and there are lots of people saying you can freeze without blanching so we shall see.
Have a good day and thanks again x

I have cooked the cabbage first and then frozen it, it worked out quite well.

Hi Cookie , thanks for your reply. I was hoping to freeze from raw and not have to blanch or cook the cabbage. This is what I've done so I'll let you know how it turns out when I steam it in a few days time.

I just popped over to your blog and love your waffles. I will return when I have more time.

I will be interested in seeing how your frozen fresh cabbage turns out, Maureen. I have always blanched it for about 1 1/2 minutes before freezing. I finally got rid of my raspberry canes -- our growing season is so short, it wasn't worth the trouble for such a small crop. P. x
