Keeping Busy

I have been keeping busy indoors during this cold spell, apart from sowing my onion seeds a couple of days ago and placing them on windowsills around the house, I've done nothing else in the way of gardening. There was still ice on the bird bath this morning and the ground is so hard. It looks like everything will be sown later this year, but I'm sure it will catch up eventually.

Below is a selection of things I have been doing these past couple of weeks.

I've made Lot's of cards, a small selection here.

My crochet skills are coming on, but I'm not sure if I could ever make a garment from a pattern.

I did design the little crochet flower myself. The photo isn't to good as the light was bad (taken in the evening under a lamp) these are just sample squares.

I've made some beads from 'Fimo' oven baked clay. The have an Indian/Rustic influence and I like them to look aged, hopefully I have succeeded.

And finally I have been busy making fabric hearts. I collect hearts of all kinds, wire, wooden, tin, metal, fabric etc, and they are in various places around the house & garden. I saw some fabric ones in a craft shop and thought 'I can make those' and so I did ! and thoroughly enjoyed making them. I just have to sell them now as I can't keep them all, and I have more cut out ready to sew, it's addictive and I love choosing the fabrics , the ribbons and buttons.

So you see I really have been busy !!!

Hi Maureen, I see you've been busy too :)

We have also been waking up to frozen bird baths and frosty windscreens. I am yet to sow seeds but really don't plan to till Feb month is well on its way.

I AM LOVING THOSE BEADS!!!!!!! Be still my beating heart :)

Those hearts are so adorable and just in time for the Valentine's celebration.

Isn't it funny that though life is pretty busy, we have so little to blog about because our blogs are garden based... Roll on spring ;).

My word, you've been busy! I'm not even considering sowing anything until probably about April! Love the beads, and the crochet looks great! I've just made a load of window hangings from fused glass in various shapes including hearts, you can see them here - http://www.etsy.com/shop/ShardsOfLight

You certainly have been busy, Maureen. I'm so impressed with your crotcheting, I would never have the patience to learn. You could always make lots of squares in different patterns and colours and sew them into a blanket, I love crotchet blankets.

You have been well occupied Maureen. I do like those beads - what will you use them for? Still no lottie for me and yet more snow!

I am so sorry my reply to your comments is a bit late, we have just got back from my sister in London who had a big '0' birthday party.
KELLA, thanks for the comments on my beads and hearts. I think you are having worse weather than us, even in London they had more snow. It didn't settle though. I will check out the crochet links and the photo meme asap.

MRS JONES, thanks for the comments. Your glass hearts are beautiful also the crescent moons. I must pop by again to see if you have done any more crocheting.
................

JO, It's not hard to crochet, but trying to read a pattern is so foreign after Reading knitting patterns. I had thought of just doing squares, like you said and making them into throws or cushion covers. I want to use nice bright colours though.

ALLOT OF VEG, thanks for commenting and stopping by, I appreciate it.

PAM (hortensia) I can't believe you have been idle, you are never idle! have you lost that mojo again ?
......................

PAM (English Garden) you are too kind, thanks for the comment. I wouldn't bank on the weather warming up here. It's still trying to snow again in some parts of the country, and here in Hampshire it's freezing. I couldn't even get the lid of my wheelie bin open this evening it was frozen shut.
I bet you can't wait to see your mother, and she must be longing to see you. I really hope the weather improves for you.

Hi ANNA, Thanks for stopping by and your comment. Bad luck on the snow,I hope it doesn't last too long for you. It's so annoying isn't it not being able to get to the lottie. It's really so cold here and this winter seems so long.

I will probably sell the beads on for others to make into jewellery. KELLA bought some from me and she has made one into a lovely bracelet, and will I'm sure do something brilliant with the others in time.

Hi Maureen
I just wanted to say thanks for this lovely blog entry. It sounds as though we have very similar interests. I have recently taken up crochet as well, and am loving it. I think your fabric hearts are adorable. It is really nice to see what fellow gardeners are up to in the leaner months.
I was going to send you the favourite picture meme, but I see you already have it!

MOY, thank you for the nice comment, we do indeed have a lot in common. I visited your lovely blog this evening after I got this comment (it's been a while, sorry !) I tried to leave a message, but it didn't happen, not sure why, so I will try again.
