The Health Benefits of Rhubarb and it's juice

I thought that I had read somewhere recently (probably the daily paper) that rhubarb juice was beneficial to health. So when I harvested lots of the said stuff on Tuesday I decide to save all the juice as I had added too much water and it needed to be poured off. Anyway here are some very good links to places that tell us all about this wonderful juice. It taste lovely and you can even make a mix with oranges as well, check these out as it's worth a try. Also try googling ' Health benefits of Rhubarb juice' as lots of other sites and info came up.

And here is one from good old 'Waitrose' must be good if they have a recipe. If you try it and like it please let me know.

I have written this post on my Craft and Recipe blog as well, but as not all of the readers of this blog follow that one I didn't want you to miss out on this info as most of us ( if not everyone) grows rhubarb.

I love rhubarb and I do agree it goes well with orange. I make a rhubarb and orange jelly which my elderly mum prefers to jam on her toast.

I haven't harvested any rhubarb yet, it's not quite ready. It's only in it's second year, so I won't be taking much, just enough for a crumble. I'll check out the links you've posted.

I planted rhubarb last year, and the plant is enormous, but I haven't tried it yet. I am hoping my new strawberry plants will produce, because my husband is very partial to strawberry and rhubarb pie. Good to know something we like is also good for us!

I am drowning in rhubarb at the moment! The stalks in Spring have much more juice in them than they do later in the season. I use rhubarb juice to make bucks fizz! It is amazing, you have to try it. The stalks are better later in Summer if you want to make jam or chutney because they have more substance to them.

Thanks for all your comments and input on this amazing juice. I have never tried drinking the juice before and now I'm hooked. I have it at breakfast.

MATRON, I would love the recipe for Bucks Fizz.

VEGETABLE HEAVEN, if you have a recipe for the the rhubarb and orange jelly I would like that too.

JO, if you like rhubarb I would recommend that you grow more than one plant, somehow I have ended up with 6 ! some given to me and others I bought as tiny crowns, all have grown big now and it's so nice to be able to give some away to friends as well as have plenty for my new found fave juice.

The jelly recipe is on my blog somewhere - I'll be the middle of last year sometime.

Hi Maureen, certainly you can use the recipe on your other blog. It came oroginally from "Jams, Chutneys, Preserves, Vinegars and Oils" by Marguerite Patten. (Contender for the world's snappiest title - not!)
As well as a good flavour it has a fabulous colour.
