Happy New Year Everyone

Hello 2013 I hope this is going to be a great one ! not that I'm complaining about last year ! other than the weather playing havoc with the growing season on the allotment.

I have been to my plot today to take kitchen waste to feed my thousands of worms in the two compost bins up there. I kid you not on the number of worms ! they are amazing and have munched their way through all the rubbish over the last couple of months and I now have one bin that has some pretty darn good compost. I never thought I would get excited over worms and compost!  but that's what having an allotment does to you.

I have to be totally honest and say that my interest after 4 years was waning a bit ! but speaking to others it seems most of us go through this at some stage. However I think I have got some of my old enthusiasm back and I'm already planning what I want to grow this year.

If you haven't already checked out Victoriana Nurseries (link on the side of my blog) please do so as Stephen has a good stock of everything you need. I have to get my own order in soon otherwise I will be behind before I know it.

As there isn't anything worth taking a photograph of at this time I thought I would post myself a reminder of just how good my harvests were last year lest I forget !!

And the flowers were amazing ! Ohhhhh I really am getting into it all again just remembering all the flowers I picked each time I went to the plot.

I hope you are all looking forward to this years planning and planting.

All the best for this year
M xx

Happy New Year Maureen ~ hope that it treats you, your loved ones, garden and allotment kindly. I must admit that my enthusiasm definitely waned last year but think that the weather was a huge factor. Your post has reminded me that I must pop into the shed to see how my Can- o- Worms is faring :)

I literally cannot wait to get planting! Are your worm bins designated wormery's? Or just very healthy compost bins? I ask because we got a wormery last year and struggle with it getting too wet and full of friut flies all the time, no matter how much dry stuff we put in! I just cant bare to throw away kitchen waste til the wormery dries out!

I saw you used BioFriend Plant Defence in the past. How did it work for you? I saw it on the Victoriana website and was thinking of giving it a go. Also, I love the photos of your harvest. Fantastic! Inspiration for 2013.

Hi Anna , lovely to,hear from you ! I hope you and your family are well . How are your worms faring ? Did you go and check on them ?

Hi Lulu, my worms are the ordinary earth worms, although I think they are extra ordinary ! As they are just amazing and the compost is looking great. Have you tried putting in newspaper and cardboard ? or can't you do that with a proper wormery ? I know they are different kind of worms aren't they ? I hope you get it sorted.

Hi rwolcott the BioFriend worked really well and last for ages I still have some and would definitely recommend it. Thanks for your nice comment .

Hi Jean thanks for your comment and I agree about looking on past harvest photographs making us long to start off again.

Wishing you all well and lots of lovely harvests this year.
