The title of the post is referring to my little granddaughter Florence who was baptised last Sunday, and she really looked like a little princess. She was so good whilst being baptised, but by the end of the service she was fed up with it all and looked very cross, wouldn't smile and got very fidgety. The photo below was taken prior to her baptism, so that's why she is smiling.
The weather has been dreadful hasn't it, and those poor people that have had the floods, my heart goes out to them. I can't imagine how it must feel to have to leave your home, especially at this time of year with Christmas only four weeks away.
I have tried to get to the allotment so many times over the past few weeks only to be beaten by the weather. I am beginning to think someone 'Up There' is having a laugh at my expense, as on a few occasions I have actually been on my way and the sun was shining, and as soon as I turned the corner and the lottie was in sight the heavens opened and I had to turn around and go home again, Aaarhhhh !!
I desperately want to dig the second trench for the asparagus and put the manure in. The first trench was dug and filled weeks ago. If I don't get it done soon the soil wont be ready for planting the asparagus when it's delivered in the spring. I am only going to plant 10-12 as most books recommend that this number is enough to feed the average family and there is only two of us, although my daughter-in-law is partial to asparagus as well.
Today was cold, raining and windy, so definitely not gardening weather. I decided to give my study/craft room a sorting out, as most of the time I can never find what I need and have to go through all the drawers to find it. It took best part of the day and I'm still not finished. All the drawers are now tidied, sorted and labeled, so I know exactly where all my craft things are now.
So much has happened since I last posted, we have had a Christening and a funeral, and although that was a sad occasion Austin got to meet up with cousins he hadn't seen in a long time and one he hadn't seen since they were children in India.
I have started another blog 'Recipes from Allotment Heaven' the link is on the right side of this blog. There are only a couple of recipes there at the moment, but I will be adding to it, and hope you will e-mail me any of your favourites, so I can add them and put a link to your blog under the recipe.
Well that about wraps it up, I wish I could say I have been busy on the allotment or in the garden, but the weather has me beaten as I am sure it has you too if you live here in the UK.

Sorry the weather has been so awful in England. I'm glad my mom lives on high ground.

Hi Pam, thanks for visiting and the kind comments. It has really taken me ages to get into posting again. I think that not having done anything in the garden or on the allotment makes it difficult, as the main reason for the blog was for the very purpose of documenting what I was doing, so I will just have to waffle about other things in my life !

It's turned so very cold here this weekend, but in some strange way, it's actually easier to get up to the allotment in this fresh weather, rather than the endles damp and wet.

Hi PAM (Hortensia)It's good to get back, but my mojo hasn't entirely returned, but as I said before if you have time away from blogging it does get difficult to start again. Same goes for the allotment, there was a dry sunny spell today albeit very cold, but I just couldn't muster up the interest to go up and dig that beastly asparagus trench. Ah well! it's not one of life's tragedies.
Nice to see you back, Maureen. I'm not blogging as often as I was in summer now either, there's just so much more to blog about on a gardening blog in summer than winter. Pam left me a comment letting me know that you have started a recipe blog, so I will be following that with interest. Florence looked like a little angel, you must be so proud. I'm glad that you enjoyed the day. My daughter was christened last year, she was 10 at the time. We had planned to have her christened when she was a baby but had to cancel the week before it was due to take place due to the death of my sister, and then one thing and another led us to not rescheduling until last year. We had a really lovely day though, and my daughter felt extra special as she was fully aware at the age of 10 of what was happening. So sorry too to hear of the funeral, my sincere condolences. It seems that when we are children we meet up with family members at weddings and as we get older we see them more and more at funerals, a sad way of the world.
Wondered where you were Maureen. Florence is simply beautiful. I have not set foot on my lottie for a while now:( The least said about the weather the better. At least we can plan next year's crops :)
Hi JO, thanks for the comment, your right there isn't much to blog about in the winter if it's a gardening/allotment blog. I have decided to blog here and there though just to keep it going, I hope you will do the same as it's nice to know what else people are doing besides planting and growing.
I think that your daughter must have felt special being baptised at ten yrs and you very proud that she made that important decision.
It was my husbands elderly cousin who died, bless her ! she was a lovely lady. She was quite theatrical and called everyone 'Lovely' or darling, she was well travelled, and very elegant and will be missed.
I hope you will try some of the recipes on my new blog, only a couple at the moment but it will increase. Pam @ Hortensia tried the chickpea and pumpkin recipe and loved it.

Hi ANNA, thanks for the comments. Like you say time to plan next years crops which is exciting.
I want to grow less potatoes, as I am cutting down on carbs so not eating as many now. I want to grow Asparagus next year and have prepared one trench and waiting for a break in this terrible weather to dig and manure the second one. It's all very frustrating.
Now how the heck did I miss this update, really cross with myself.
Like you my life has kept me so busy that I haven't had time to blog, garden, visit the plot or do any of the things that help keep me sane, so I know what you mean.
Your little granddaughter is very cute. My niece was dedicated yesterday, we were able to watch and be part of the ceremony via skype (she lives with her mum and dad in New Jersey).
And look at you starting a new recipe blog, I'm off to check it out and I'll be sure to add it to my blog following list, so I can stay up to date with the entries.

Can we talk manure? I'm thinking of doing the same thing... but fresh manure will burn my existing plants, yes? Do you work it in and allow the field to rest. How long before you can plant?
