The Dahlias are beautiful.

The Dahlias on the lottie are in flower and I love them. It has been worth all the trouble of caring for them since sowing the seeds. I now have lots of flowers growing on the plot in between the vegetables as well as in separate beds, and it is looking very colourful.
All the vegetables are coming on well and I should be harvesting, broad beans, peas and kale very soon. I am already picking the spinach beet, mizuna and the cabbage which is from last winters sowing. I will post photo's of the veg tomorrow.
Yesterday I planted some Pak Choi but when I checked it today something had pulled some of them out of the ground and some leaves were eaten. I think it was probably pigeons, they must have tugged on them whilst munching the leaves which made them come out of the soil. Oh well ! some you win and some you lose.

Dahlias, Pansies and Fennel

Cosmos, Altriplex and Cerinthe.

Ooooh! Those dahlias are gorgeous - definitely worth the bother. Your whole flower collection looks wonderful. No more expensive florists for you for a while.

Thanks PAM, you inspired me to have a cutting patch. The Echinacea are taking ages to grow, I have white which I bought 2 of (tubers) and the rest are from seed and are Pink. Having only tried growing them this year I don't really know what to expect growth wise.

The fourth flower, the white one with the red splotches and striations is stunning. Congratulations on your success with seeds.

I notice your fennel. In Bermuda, it is considered a weed from hell. Since we never get frost, nothing ever dies here. And it grows, and grows and grows. The roots are often over a meter long! What a nightmare.

Your gardens are always bright and full of awesome color. Oh, and I guess the pigeons have to eat too, even if they are a wee bit overenthusiastic and, dare I say, messy!

Beautiful dahlias! About the echinacea taking so long ... there is a saying about perennials: "The first year they sleep, the second year they creep, and the third year they leap." I have found this to be true. One of the virtues gardening has taught me is patience. But its hard to wait sometimes. Thanks for sharing your lovely endeavors!

PROSPERO, thank you for your kind comments. At first I was thoroughly fed up with raising so many dahlias (70) from seed, they took a lot of pampering and looking after, but I am delighted with the results.
The Fennel here isn't a problem in fact I love it as it's a beauty and smells delicious. I just cut it down every autumn and it pops up again in the spring. You are right about the pigeons they do need to eat, I just wish they would eat the slugs that would be a perfect world !

PAM'S ENGLISH GARDEN, thanks for the comment, although I am not sure if I can be patient, I want those echinacea to flower this year. It says they flower from July-September on the packet, so they had better get a move on with the growth.

Your Dahlias are gorgeous. I just can't believe that they're in flower. I've grown some from seed too this year and they're nowhere near flowering yet. They were still quite small until a couple of weeks ago, and now seem to have put on a growth spurt so hopefully they will flower. Yes, it's all about patience.
